Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) previously known as Islamic University College Malaysia (KUIM) is a new millennium university, committed to become a frontrunner university in Islamic studies, using the latest technology to solve current issues related to society and Islam. Accordingly, USIM Library has moved towards automation in line with the objectives of USIM.

The history of USIM Library automation began in 2001 when a new acquisition system was developed in collaboration of USIM Information Technology Center. The new system was aimed to enhance acquisition activities to become more efficient and effective. At the same time, the library applying Online Computer library Center (OCLC), a cataloging system, to describe the materials. Indirectly, the system facilated library staff in cataloging process since it managed to store data in MARC (Machine Readable Catalogue) format. The MARC records facilitated the process of data transfer when the library implementing the automation system.
